Film "21" Should Boost Blackjack Interest Online

The film "21" opens in theatres March 28 and in anticipation of the film, online casinos are looking to capitalize, especially on the blackjack front.

The film is based on the best-selling book by Ben Mezrich, Bringing Down the House.

Ben Campbell (Jim Sturgess) is a shy, brilliant MIT student who ˇV needing to pay school tuition ˇV finds the answers in the cards. He is recruited to join a group of the schoolˇ¦s most gifted students that heads to Vegas every weekend armed with fake identities and the know-how to turn the odds at blackjack in their favor. With unorthodox math professor and stats genius Micky Rosa (Kevin Spacey) leading the way, theyˇ¦ve cracked the code. By counting cards and employing an intricate system of signals, the team can beat the casinos big time. Seduced by the money, the Vegas lifestyle, and by his smart and sexy teammate, Jill Taylor (Kate Bosworth), Ben begins to push the limits. Though counting cards isnˇ¦t illegal, the stakes are high, and the challenge becomes not only keeping the numbers straight, but staying one step ahead of the casino's menacing enforcer, Cole Williams (Laurence Fishburne).

"Our online casino advertisers are hoping that a whole new market of blackjack players emerges from the buzz surrounding this film," commented Payton O'Brien, Senior Editor of Gambling911.com.

Online blackjack is among the most popular games though not quite as popular as video slots.

"We have already witnessed how poker television shows have fueled the online poker craze, let's see if the same can happen with online blackjack and if this film '21' is the initiator," O'Brien said.

Many online poker rooms and the players themselves point to a single event that helped the phenomenon: a no-name Chris Moneymaker winning the World Series of Poker on television.

Now online poker is the most popular game as part of a billion dollar industry.
